Caption: June beetle feeding on a flower's petal. This beetle (Phyllopertha horticola) belongs to the chafer family, which includes scarab beetles, and is also know as a maybug. It is a serious pest causing damage to crops of corn, potato and strawberry. Here it is seen feeding on the petal of a rock rose (Cistus loretii). The adults feed on the foliage and flowers, while larvae feed on the plant's roots.
