Caption: Mealworm garnish. Yellow mealworm larvae (Tenebrio molitor) arranged in a garnish of carrot and herbs. T. molitor is a type of beetle. The eating of insects, entomophagy, occurs all over the world, and includes ants, locusts and moths. Insects, along with arachnids such as spiders and scorpions, are good sources of carbohydrates, fats and proteins. Mealworms are pests of stored grain. Recipes for cooking mealworm larvae suggest including them in stir-fries, cookies and pancakes.
