Caption: Dung beetle (family Scarabaeidae). This insect feeds on the undigested plant fibre within the faeces of herbivores. The female dung beetle lays her eggs inside a ball of dung. Once hatched, the larval stage of the beetle remains inside the dung, upon which it feeds. Photographed in Yasuni National Park, Amazon rainforest, Ecuador.
