Caption: Colorado potato beetle (Leptinotarsa decemlineata) on a leaf. This beetle, which grows up to 1 centimetre in length, is native to south-western North America. It is also found throughout mainland Europe and northern Asia. It is a major pest of potatoes and may also attack tomatoes and aubergines. Efforts to eradicate the beetle have been unsuccessful as it is able to develop resistance to insecticides quickly.
