Caption: Rove beetle (Atheta coriaria), coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM). At top right are the beetle's antennae with one of the compound eyes (red) below and to the left of them. The short wing cases (elytra) are dark brown. This beetle is found in soil where it preys on other insects, including flies, thrips and gnats. A. coriaria is used as a biological control agent for plant and crop pests.
