Caption: Common housefly. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of the hairy leg of a common housefly, Musca domestica. The hairs are laid out in a comb-like pattern and are mainly used to clean the eyes. Due to its taste for both filth and sweet foods, M. domestica carries many human diseases on its legs and feet, spreading them onto human food. Magnification: x100 at 6x7cm size.
