Caption: Dung fly. High-speed photograph of a dung fly (Scatophaga stercoraria) taking off from a green plant. This species occurs throughout Europe, Asia and North America and is usually to be found on animal dung. The females lay their eggs in dung and the maggots live and feed on it. The adults are also attracted to dung because it is there that they find their prey; mainly the numerous small dung flies of the family Sphaeroceridae.
