Caption: Stable fly foot. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of a hairy adhesive pad, or pulvillus, on the foot of a stable fly (Stomoxys calcitrans). These hairy pads allow the fly to cling to smooth surfaces. This fly feeds on the blood of mammals and is a significant pest of livestock. For the whole foot, see image number Z340/0886.
