Caption: Leaf cocoon. A cocoon made from living poplar leaves glued together with silk by a caterpillar (species unidentified). Caterpillars produce cocoons when they are ready to metamorphose into adult butterflies. Inside the cocoon the caterpillar's organs degenerate completely and a new body develops.
