Caption: White marbled butterfly (Melanargia galathea) resting on a thistle flower. This butterfly lays its eggs in flight, from where they are sprinkled amongst grass stems. Once hatched, the larvae immediately enter hibernation and only feed the following spring. Adults emerge from the larvae in July. Photographed in Oxfordshire, UK, in July.
