Caption: Giant manta (Manta birostris) with remoras attached to it. This is a Pacific manta, which inhabits the tropical and subtropical waters of the Pacific Ocean. It is a plankton feeder, filtering tiny organisms from the water as it swims. The fins on either side of its head help to guide water into its mouth. The manta ray may reach a width of up to nine metres. The remora is a fish that sticks to a host using a modified fin. It feeds on skin parasites and food scraps. Photographed off the islands of French Polynesia.
