Caption: Chevron barracuda. Divers with a school of chevron barracuda, Sphyraena sp., silhouetted against the sun. These fish congregate in schools numbering many thousands, seeking safety in numbers from predators. The resulting wall of fast-moving silver and black stripes makes it difficult for a predator to focus on a single fish. Chevron barracuda are fast and voracious predators reaching lengths of over a metre. They inhabit tropical and subtropical coastal waters, migrating in pursuit of schooling fish. A school of smaller jackfish, Caranx sexfasciatus, is seen at lower right. Photographed off Palau Sipadan, Malaysia.
