Caption: Channel catfish (Ictalurus punctatus). This fish inhabits clean streams, rivers and lakes in North America, from southern Canada to Mexico. It has a varied diet that includes fish, crustaceans, molluscs, aquatic insects and small mammals. It can reach a length of nearly 150 centimetres, and is valued as a food fish. It has been the subject of aquaculture (fish farming), and some escapes have led to it becoming a pest in some areas.
