Caption: Frogs mating. View of two Hyla rhodopepla frogs mating (amplexus) on a leaf in a rainforest. The male (top) is smaller and more slender than the female. When a male encounters a female ready to spawn he climbs onto her back. When the female is ready to ovulate, eggs are released into water and are quickly fertilised by the male's sperm. Once ovulation ceases the male climbs off, and the female leaves the site. Photographed in Ecuador.
