Caption: Spiny-tailed gecko (Diplodactylus ciliaris). This gecko lives in woodland and grassland habitats in Australia. When threatened it ejects a strongly- smelling, sticky liquid from the spines of its tail. It has large eyes to help it see at night when hunting for its insect prey. D. ciliaris is about 12 centimetres long. Photographed in the Australian desert.
