Caption: Greater bulldog bat (Noctilio leporinus) catching a fish, high-speed photograph. This bat flies over water, chirping to detect fish by reflected sound (echolocation). It swoops to rake its taloned feet through disturbed areas of water that may contain fish. It can then raise the impaled fish to its mouth to feed with its sharp teeth. It usually stores the fish in its expandable cheek pouches. It also eats other water animals such as insects and crustaceans. This bat hunts at dusk and during the night, roosting near water during the day. N. leporinus is found in tropical and subtropical regions of the Americas.
