Caption: Arctic ground squirrel. View of a standing arctic ground squirrel (Spermophilus parryii) in snow. These small rodents are distributed from Hudson Bay, Canada, to Alaska, USA, to Siberia, Russia. They live in burrows in arctic tundra. These burrows have several different chambers but only one entrance. These squirrels are true hibernators between October to May. They eat mainly vegetation but will eat insects, eggs, mice and other small rodents. Photographed in Denali National Park, Alaska, USA.
