Caption: White-footed mouse. White-footed mouse (Peromyscus leucopus) on berries. From spring, seeds, fruits and insects form the majority of this rodent's diet. In autumn and winter, however, insects, spiders and centipedes make up most of its diet, along with nuts and vegetation. White-footed mice are nocturnal animals that live in forests, grassland and bushy areas in eastern, southern and central USA. This mouse is one of the main carriers of the tick that harbours the Lyme disease bacterium.
