Caption: African pygmy mouse (Mus sp.). This tiny rodent inhabits southern Africa. It is nocturnal, feeding mainly on grains and fruits. It is one of the smallest rodents, reaching a length of around four centimetres, excluding the tail. It can leap great distances for its size, over 50 centimetres in some cases. Such leaping is used to avoid predators. Photographed in the Kalahari Gemsbok National Park, South Africa.
