Caption: Flying squirrel (Glaucomys volans) leaping to a tree at night. This arboreal rodent cannot actually fly, but glides from tree to tree on the folds of skin between its front and back legs. It is native to the forests of the USA and Central America. It is nocturnal, emerging at night to feed on a varied diet including fruit, leaves, insects, eggs and small animals. It is a solitary animal, meeting others only to mate.
