Caption: Grey squirrel (Sciurus carolinensis) feeding while sitting on a branch. The grey squirrel is native to the woodlands of eastern North America, but it was introduced to the UK in the late 19th Century and has since displaced much of the native red squirrel population. It feeds mainly on nuts, berries and pine cones, but is also known to take insects and even birds' eggs. It is larger than the native red squirrel, reaching a body length of up to 30 centimetres, excluding the tail.
