Caption: Bouncing ball, stroboscopic image. The sequence of images revealed by the strobe light shows that the ball's trajectory is a parabola, as predicted by theories of classical mechanics, such as Newton's Laws of Motion. The delay between the images is the same, so the sequence also shows the changing speed of the ball. The ball moves fastest near the ground and slowest at the top of the arc of its parabola. The sequence also shows that the horizontal speed is approximately constant, and that only the vertical speed is changing, which is due to gravity.
