Capybara (Hydrochaeris hydrochaeris) with its young. This is the largest rodent in the world, attaining a length of over 130 centimetres. It inhabits wetlands in northern and eastern South America, where it feeds on vegetation. It lives in small herds of around 20 animals, led by a dominant male. It spends much of its time in water, often leaving only its nostrils exposed to the air. Photographed in the Brazilian Pantanal.
