Caption: Beluga whale. Beluga, or white, whale (Delphinapterus leucas). The beluga whale lives in coastal waters, estuaries and large rivers in the Arctic. Typically these slow swimmers move around in pods of around 10 individuals, feeding on bottom-dwelling fish and molluscs. Beluga whales migrate south in autumn and return north in spring. During migrations, pods may join together to form groups of up to 200 whales.
