Caption: Humpback whales (Megaptera novaeangliae) swimming. This calf (centre) is swimming directly above its mother, reducing the effort it has to make. Humpbacks feed on krill and fish. They can reach around 27 tonnes in weight and 15 metres in length. They are found in deep water near coasts in all of the world's oceans. These whales are accompanied by remoras (white fish), which hang off them with dorsal fins modified into suckers, feeding on parasites and food scraps. Photographed in the Indian Ocean off Madagascar.
