Caption: Bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops truncatus) playing with a swimmer. The bottlenose dolphin is found throughout the world, apart from in cold polar seas. It lives in groups (pods) of around 15 individuals, although it occasionally congregates in groups of several hundred. It is highly intelligent and sociable, and group interactions are complex. Males fight viciously and are known to gang up on each other and on females. It has little fear of humans, and seems to enjoy interacting with people in the water. The male bottlenose dolphin can reach a length of four metres, although females are smaller. Photographed at the Dolphin Quest centre in Moorea, French Polynesia.
