Caption: Grizzly bear. Head of a bellowing grizzly bear (Ursus arctos horribilis). The grizzly bear inhabits the interior of north-western North America. Its diet consists mainly of vegetation, although it does seem to prefer flesh when it is available. As well as hunting large mammals, grizzlies may fish for salmon in rivers, or even dig for clams. They are solitary animals, although cubs usually accompany their mother until they are over a year old. Grizzly bears spend up to seven months during the winter hibernating in a den.
