Caption: Meerkats, Suricata suricatta, warming themselves in the sun with their young. These mongooses have two to four young in a litter. The young reach maturity after one year. Meerkats are active, social mammals, forming colonies that occupy underground burrows. They feed during the day, mainly on insects, and are found in southern Africa.
