Caption: Banded mongoose (Mungos mungo). The banded mongoose is found throughout sub-Saharan Africa, inhabiting grassland, woodland and rocky country. The banded mongoose is a social creature, living in groups of up to 20 individuals. The groups are nomadic, rarely staying in one location for more than a week. Their dens are usually created from modified termite or aardvark holes, but they do occasionally dig their own. The banded mongoose feeds mainly on insects but will also take rodents, frogs and berries. They are also skilled snake hunters.
