Caption: Dog breeds. View of two domestic dog, Canis familiaris, sitting on grass. At right is a Great Dane and at left is a Miniature Schnauzer. Great Danes originated in Germany in the 16th century. They were originally used to hunt wild boar, however they are now used mainly as pets. The smaller Miniature Schnauzer dog was developed for use as a farm dog in the 19th century. Its small size makes it an ideal pet to keep in a house.
