Caption: Red fox (Vulpes vulpes). The red fox is found throughout the Northern Hemisphere. It has adapted extremely well to life in urban areas, and is found in a wide variety of habitats. In its natural habitat of grassland and woodland it feeds mainly on small mammals, invertebrates, birds and carrion. In cities it feeds on anything it can find, taking birds and mammals still, but also scavenging in bins and refuse tips. It is primarily active at dusk and at night. The red fox can reach a length of over a metre, including the tail. Males are larger than females.
