Caption: Bengal tiger. Bengal tiger (Panthera tigris tigris) running along a beach. The Bengal tiger lives mainly in the forests of India. Unlike some cats it has no fear of water. It is a powerful swimmer, and has been known to swim to islands near the coast to search for prey. Tigers mainly eat large mammals such as deer, antelopes and wild boars. They have been known to attack rhinoceroses and elephants in exceptional circumstances. They are solitary for most of their lives, living in huge territories covering hundreds of square kilometres. They are the largest of the cat family, and an adult may weigh 300 kilograms and reach almost three metres in length.
