Caption: Male Asiatic lion (Panthera leo persica) yawning. Males are distinguished by the large mane around their necks. Asiatic lions are carnivorous big cats which inhabit the forests and scrub of southern Asia. Lions are the only truly social cat, living in large groups (prides) of about 20 individuals, including two or three males, several females, and their young. Hunting in a pride is usually done by groups of lionesses. The whole pride feeds from a kill, and food is even saved for weak or sick pride members. Their prey typically consists of herbivores such as deer.
