Caption: Bobcat (Lynx rufus) mother and kitten. Normally, 3-4 kittens are born in the spring or summer. The kitten will be cared for by both parents. It will have been weaned at 12 weeks old, and starts to hunt with its mother at 5 months old. It will become independent at 9 months old and should live for around 12 years. Bobcats are found throughout a wide range of habitats in most of the USA and Mexico. They are predatory carnivores, though they also scavenge carrion. They reach a body length of around 1 metre. When not breeding, bobcats are solitary animals. Photographed in the Bob Marshall Wilderness, Montana, USA.
