Leopard (Panthera pardus). This solitary carnivore hunts small prey such as antelope and hares. It stalks its prey and creeps up to within a few metres before pouncing. The prey is then killed by a nape or throat bite. Despite its size and body weight, the leopard moves with agility in trees and will often drag its kill up into the branches before feeding. P. pardus is found in wooded savannah and forests throughout sub-Saharan Africa and southern Asia. This male leopard was photographed in the Samburu Game Reserve in Kenya, East Africa.
