Caption: Sea lion. View of a sea lion (Zalophus californianus wollebaeki) on a beach. Sea lions are gregarious marine carnivores which inhabit the coasts of the south-western USA, Japan and the Galapagos Islands. They feed on fish, which they catch in chases, and shellfish they find on the rocks and seabed. Adult males may reach a length of around 2.5 metres, and weigh up to 300 kilograms. The females are significantly smaller. These sea lions are often displayed in zoos, and easily become tame. They can be trained to perform a variety of tricks and stunts. Photographed on Floreana Island, one of the Galapagos Islands, which belong to Ecuador.
