Caption: Pika. View of a juvenile pika (Ochotona princeps) on a rock in alpine tundra, carrying vegetation. The pika is a rat-sized mammal that weighs up to 180 g and has a body length of up to 21 cm. The pika lives in large colonies, however within these colonies individuals maintain their own territory. A pika's diet consists of grass and flowers. Pika's do not hibernate, and they reproduce in the spring and summer. Gestation lasts for about 30 days and the female gives birth to 2-5 young. The pika is found in rocky terrain in northwestern USA and western Canada. It lives in areas where human presence is very limited. Photographed in Newot Ridge, Colorado, USA.
