Caption: Young European rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus) sitting in undergrowth. This rabbit is found on every continent except Asia and Antarctica, inhabiting any area with soft soil suitable for burrowing, but avoiding dense forest. Rabbits are capable of breeding year-round, although most takes place during the first half of the year. Gestation is around 30 days, with 5 to 6 young per litter. The young are weaned at 4 weeks and reach sexual maturity at 8 months. The rabbit is a herbivore, feeding on grasses, roots, tree bark and other vegetation. Adult males reach up to 55 centimetres in length. Photographed on Exmoor, Somerset, UK.
