Caption: Manatees. Pair of manatees or sea cows (Trichechus sp.). Manatees are aquatic mammals that live in estuaries, rivers and coastal waters. The three species live in the Amazon, the Caribbean and west Africa. They are herbivorous, eating various water plants in both fresh and saltwater. Manatees may be solitary or live in small groups. They are large animals, weighing up to 500 kilograms and eating over 30 kilograms of plant matter each day.
