Caption: African elephants (Loxodonta africana), being ridden by mahouts and tourists on a safari. Often orphaned elephants are used for this activity. The elephant's relationship with its mahout is very important and can last for up to 20 years. African elephants are the world's largest land animals. They weigh up to 10,000 kilograms and measure 3.5 meters in height. Although found in many habitats throughout sub-Saharan Africa, the African elephant is considered to be a vulnerable species. Photographed near Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe.
