Caption: African elephant's foot (Loxodonta africana) and nails. The foot contains a gelatinous material that serves as a shock-absorber against the elephant's great weight. The African Elephant is the world's largest land animal. It weighs up to 10,000 kilograms and measures 3.5 meters in height. Although found in many habitats throughout sub-Saharan Africa, the African elephant is considered to be a vulnerable species. Photographed near Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe.
