Caption: Rock hyrax (Procavia capensis). This herbivore feeds on grasses, herbs and shrubs. It is sociable, living in large colonies which inhabit rock crevices and caves in cliffs. The hyrax is a ruminant, its closest living relatives being the elephants. Also called the Cape or big-toothed hyrax, it is found throughout southern Africa and in Arabia and the Middle East. Photographed in the Augrabies Falls National Park, South Africa.
