Caption: Hippopotamuses. Heads of a mother hippopotamus (or hippo, Hippopotamus amphibius) and her calf amongst vegetation in a river. Hippos are large water-loving herbivores which live in and around rivers throughout southern and eastern Africa. They spend the majority of the day resting in water and grazing on water plants. At night, they may leave the water to eat fruits and sugarcane. Hippos live in groups of around 15 individuals, although larger groups have been seen. Hippos may reach over five metres in length. Photographed in Lake Manyara National Park in Tanzania.
