Caption: Red deer fighting. Heads of two male red deer (Cervus elephas) fighting. These animals are also known as wapitis or Rocky Mountain elk. Their antlers, which they grow each year, are used during the mating season in fights over territory and females, as seen here. Red deer are found throughout the world in northern temperate regions, from mountain plains to low-lying woodland. They commonly eat grass, leaves and tree bark. Photographed in Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, USA.
