Caption: Red deer, Cervus elaphus. Found across northern Europe, Asia, North America and northwestern Africa, the red deer is the second largest species of deer in the world. The European variety lives in wooded and upland areas. Only the stags have antlers, which grow at a rate of up to 2.5 cm per day, and are shed each winter. Photographed in the Scottish Highlands, UK.
