Caption: Giraffes (Giraffa camelopardalis) at the edge of a watering hole. The female has bent to drink, while the male stands behind her. He may be sniffing the air to check whether she is ready to mate. Because of their height, giraffes must splay their front legs to allow them to reach the water's surface. The giraffe lives in dry grasslands with a scattering of trees. It is the tallest living land animal, and some specimens can reach over 6 metres in height. Their great height allows them to reach up to the tops of trees, and eat the highest leaves. Photographed in Etosha National Park, Namibia.
