Caption: Klipspringers. Male (left) and female klipspringers (Oreotragus oreotragus). These herbivores feed on grasses and can go for long periods without water. The male possesses short, curved horns. They spend the hottest part of the day resting among rocks, which they move about with great agility, even where there is no apparent foothold. The bottom of the foot, beneath the hoof, has the texture of hard rubber, allowing the klipspringers to make impressive leaps and bounds whilst keeping their legs rigid. They are found in eastern Africa from Ethiopia south to South Africa. Photographed in the Augrabies Falls National Park, South Africa.
