Caption: Blue wildebeest (Connochaetes taurinus) walking to water. Blue wildebeest, also known as southern brindled gnus, are constantly on the move, searching for water and avoiding predators. Large herds of these antelope, numbering several thousand individuals, inhabit the savanna and plains of southern Africa south of Kenya. They are preyed on by large carnivores such as lions, cheetahs and wild dogs. To avoid predators, they are active day and night. All the young are born over a period of just 2-3 weeks in the rainy season and can stand within 15 minutes of birth. Photographed in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, South Africa.
