Caption: Blue wildebeest (Connochaetes taurinus) with a wire snare round its neck. The snare is likely to have been set by poachers trying to catch wild animals for the bush meat trade. The blue wildebeest, or brindled gnu, is found in large herds on savannah grasslands and plains of southern Africa. It travels many kilometres in search of food and water. C. taurinus is a major prey animal for large carnivores such as lions. Photographed at the Mkuzi game reserve, South Africa.
