Caption: Gerenuk gazelle (Litocranius walleri) standing upright on its hind-legs allowing it to feed. This gazelle lives in the scrub of eastern Africa, and eats mainly leaves and shoots. It hardly ever drinks, instead extracting most of the water it needs from its diet. Gerenuks live in groups of five or six, or just in pairs or singly. The small horns seen here are only present in the male. The gerenuk has a very long, slender neck. It uses this, and its ability to stand upright, to reach leaves which are inaccessible to other antelopes. Photographed in the Samburu National Park, Kenya.
